50 YEAR CLUB

The only requirement for membership in our 50 Year Club is that you be a graduate of Louisville Male High School 50 years ago or longer.

The Club meets once a year on the first Thursday of June.  Our meeting place is the Executive West Hotel, but please note that in December 2008 the name of the hotel will be changed to Crown Plaza.  The hotel is located adjacent to the main entrance into the Kentucky State Fairgrounds, southwest side, on Grade Lane.  We meet here due to its central location, excellent parking and reasonable pricing (all important to us seniors).

The main thrust and purpose of our Club is the reuniting of old classmates and friends.  This along with having interesting and timely speakers has proved to be very successful.  Membership and attendance has increased each year since our first meeting in 1998.  We have graduates coming from far and wide.  Each year we give a gift of appreciation to our member traveling the longest distance to be with us along with the member graduating from the earliest class in attendance.  We usually close our meetings with the singing of "Dear Old High School", it's been known to bring a tear to many an eye.  There are no other meetings or dues associated with our Club.

The original concept for the Club was conceived by a group of passionate Male High Alums including Fred Rudolph '39, Ed Shadbourne '43, Bert Trompeter '46 and Gene Rhodes '46.

If you are a graduate of LMHS 50 years ago, or longer, please plan to be with us at our next get together and as always spouses are invited and certainly welcomed.  If you have questions please don't hesitate to call our Alumni Office at 502-485-8826.

50 YEAR CLUB SPEAKER

Our featured speaker for this years meeting will be the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Louisville:

Dr. J. Blaine Hudson

A lifelong Louisville resident and 1967 graduate of Louisville Male High School, Dr. J. Blaine Hudson earned a B.S. in 1974 and M.Ed. in 1975 from the University of Louisville and an Ed.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1981.  Between 1974 and 1992, Dr. Hudson held several professional and ultimately administrative positions in University academic support and developmental programs while teaching part-time for the Departments of Hisotry and Pan-African Studies.

Dr. Hudson joined the Department of Pan-African Studies on a full-time basis in 1992 and, since that time, has directed the Pan-African Studies Institute for Teachers.  He served as chair of the Department from October 1998 through December 2003 and served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from October 1999 through June 2003.  In July 2003, he was promoted to full professor and was appointed Associated Dean of the College.  On March 1, 2004, he was appointed Acting Dean of the College and, after a national search, was appointed Dean in June 2005.
